God never forgets.

Isaiah 44:21 ‘O Israel, you will not be forgotten by me.’

I have forgotten my God many a times. I have left Him at the altar, I have abandoned Him in my personal space, I have ignored Him in counsel. Yet, He never forgot me! I am sure I don’t speak for myself but for a vast majority of youth when I say that ‘I have forgotten my Lord and Saviour’.

The beauty of our God is that He remains the same – Yesterday, Today and Forever. He is the unchangeable in a world that is constantly changing around us. He is the one person to whom we can turn and won’t be disappointed. Sure, we may have to forgo some of our personal pleasures, but the joy and peace we receive in return exceeds all that we gave away.

Why do we choose to forget God?

Ever imagined a situation where you have lost your appetite for something? It was your favourite snack, ice cream, food, chocolate but all of a sudden you don’t want it anymore? Well there is something similar at play here. To turn to God means to accept His will before ours. This is harder in reality than said. To be able to comply with this requires our full devotion. Someone who turns half to God and keeps the other half for himself will struggle to bear fruit like the seeds that were sowed with weeds. The clutter of the world will choke the life out of our faith leaving us barren in the face of faith. Hence, we forget God. Others choose to purposely forget God because He might have asked something from them which they might not be ready to give. This could be anything from disobedience to lustful immoralities. Whatever it may be, by rejecting Gods invitation to change he/she chooses to forget God for their convenience.

What does God do when we forget Him?

You have heard it said that He is ever loving, kind, merciful, forgiving and so on. Have you ever wondered what he would have done if he was your best friend? Imagine a scenario where God is your best friend and He is the one who asks these things of you, but you reject Him on purpose. How long will a friend stay by bearing your rejection? Do not think that God will be there always to give you another chance. To reject and forget him is the biggest pain we can give to our Father in heaven. Surely He will forgive our failures and faults but rejecting Him is a pain that will make the suffering of His Son worthless.

To say you love God means to realise that God has loved you even before you were born. To walk in His ways means to realise God wants the best for you. To be with God means to realise that God never forgets you!

Today, as you read this, ponder in your mind the chances God gave us to realise His love for us; the numerous occasions where He has showered His forgiving mercy in our lives. Today is the day where we can start afresh again - for His love and mercy is once again renewed and like a clean slate. Open yourselves to the Lord friends for he has nothing but the simplest and lightest of yolk. He will never burden us with struggles but lift the pain from our heart. Allow his love to touch you, let not your will but His will be done.

As St. Augustine said, ‘Lord, you have made us for Yourself, and our hearts are restless until they find rest in you.

The Lord says to us all, ‘O Israel, you will not be forgotten by me.’

Be Holy! Be on Fire!

Stay in peace. Stay with Jesus.
